Women
of Frenchtown Press Release Linda
Erickson was born and raised in New York City, and in October of 2001 moved to
Frenchtown, New Jersey (a small hamlet on the Delaware River, pop. 1528).
She received a BA in Art/Dance from Florida State University and a Master
of Fine Arts in Choreography/Art from the University of North Carolina.
Later in life she received a BS in Nursing from New York University.
She worked as a psychiatric nurse at the New York State Psychiatric
Institute from 1992 until 2001. After
graduating from UNC she worked with the New York City Ballet from 1976 to 1980. During
that time she was introduced to fashion photography while producing the
company's souvenir book which was photographed by the famous Vogue photographer
Arthur Elgort. She worked closely
along side Mr. Elgort and was greatly influenced by him in her own photography. Over
the years Ms. Erickson primarily photographed sculpture, architecture and
landscapes. However, she always
fantasized about being able to approach people she would come across on the
street and ask if she could photograph them simply because of their own beauty
and her desire to celebrate it through photography. Finally the dream
came to life and presented itself here in Frenchtown. Ms.
Erickson states "I have photographed magnificent architecture and
breathtaking landscapes in many parts of the world but to me nothing is more
beautiful and captivating than the human face.
Hopefully, I join other artists in capturing the beauty of this
region". The
Project: WOMEN OF FRENCHTOWN For
the most part society has been conditioned to identify beautiful women primarily
from glossy magazines. The decision
to photograph women under the same conditions usually reserved for fashion
photography was made to awaken the public to the beauty that surrounds them
every day. Linda Erickson
photographed women of various ages who either live or work in
Frenchtown. The photos were taken in
a studio and all hair and make-up was done by Ms. Erickson. A
total of eighteen women were photographed. The
exhibit was shown at the Beaux-Arts Gallery, 14 Lott Street in Frenchtown
(908-996-7400). The opening was on Saturday, October 19, 2002,
after which the exhibit was shown for one month. |
